FAQ: Where does the patient enter the PIN number for their Debit Card transaction?

Last updated on 13 Sept, 2025

Pin-Only Debit Card:

PIN-only debit cards are linked to a bank or credit union account. Customers can use a PIN-only card to get cash from an ATM, make deposits, transfer funds between accounts, buy goods or services from retailers, and pay certain bills online or by phone. When using a PIN-enabled debit card, the customer enters their PIN at the ATM or retail location. (YOUR ACCOUNT IS NOT SET UP FOR PIN-ONLY DEBIT TRANSACTIONS)

Dual-Use Cards:

Dual-use debit cards are both signature- and PIN-enabled and are tied directly to a financial institution account. A customer can choose to authorize a purchase by entering their PIN or by signing a receipt. Dual-use debit cards also can be used to make some payments online or over the phone or to pay regular monthly bills. These cards will always have a Visa or Mastercard logo. (YOUR ACCOUNT IS SET UP TO PROCESS ALL DEBIT CARDS THAT INCLUDE A VISA/MASTERCARD LOGO).

A PIN is not necessary to process payments. We use an offline debit where the bank will know immediately whether the card is debit or credit by the magnetic strip on the back of the card.
